Adventure Tours

For many years, Ian has led ecotours to study and photograph bears, birds, caribou and nature in general. Destinations have included Churchill, Wager Bay, Ungava, Riding Mountain, the Mississippi Delta and the Gulf of Mexico. In association with these tours, Ian has operated Tundra Buggies, tour buses, boats, quads, managed camps including cooking for groups, presented educational shows, told thousands of entertaining and educational stories and communicated with a broad variety of people from every part of the world.

Guests regard Ian as an exceptional leader, commenting on his incredible knowledge of nature, ecosystems, the lives of living things and natural processes. They love his jovial and inclusive personality, and appreciate the confidence he instills when travelling in what could be difficult environments and situations.

Before he started doing tours Ian was a Wildlife Biologist. Based in Churchill and Thompson, responsibilities included all aspects of the field management of Manitoba's polar bears including several research projects with the Canadian Wildlife Service, and delivery of the Polar Bear Alert Program in Churchill. This work involved the capture and handling of hundreds of bears, radio telemetry, behavioural observations, management planning, and inter-agency cooperation.
